Incredibly Affordable Cheese Mats For Sale

Last Updated Leave a Comment

Cheese mats are incredibly useful inside and outside the gym, and although there are some factors to consider before making any decisions, we have found the most affordable cheese mats for sale.

What are cheese mats used for?

The most effective part of a wedge is its incline slant. That incline slope is what gives your budding gymnast a little push to help complete a skill. Eventually, they will need to learn how to create that push themselves, but for now, let’s take baby steps.

Here is a list of skills wedge mats are used for:

  • Forward & Backward Roll (All variations include straddle, pike, dive, back extension, handstand to forward roll, and so one.)
  • Cartwheel
  • Roundoff
  • Front Walk Over
  • Front & Back Handspring

Here’s a fun little exercise to practice handstands with the cheese mat: Turn the wedge upright, the flat part can be used as a handstand spotter so that if the gymnast loses balance they will either fall away from their mat back on their feet (the position they started in) or fall toward the mat (more so falling with it) where they will land on top of it safely.

Tumbling 101: Beginning & Progressing

Last Updated Leave a Comment

Tumbling, in my opinion, is the funnest and scariest gymnastics event of them all. It’s not everyday you get to feel like Spider-Man, unless you’re good at floor skills. But even the web slinger had to crawl before making a leap, and mastering the basics is the first stepping stone for floor.

Gymnast need to build hand eye coordination starting from a basic level, during this time frame there are plenty of developmental tools which are used for keeping athletes safe, preventing bad habits, and gaining the ability to apply other consecutive skills. Most Valued Gymnastics Cartwheel Mat For Kids

Last Updated Leave a Comment

Since my last post about the biggest mistake when learning how to do a cartwheel, you all have been asking a lot about gymnastics mats to setup at home for level 1 skills like cartwheels. Do not worry, I have found the best cartwheel mat for learning to perfect this skill.

How long it takes you to learn/teach this skill is completely up to you though, I’m just the person who illuminates the most safe products for gymnasts.

Ways the cartwheel mat helps

Yes, you can injury yourself doing cartwheels, thanks for asking. Equipment like this is here to help correct your mistakes over a safe net before getting crazy with your cartwheels.

Line of sight is a big influence for balance, and since we will be inverting our bodies you bet it’s important to have a visual example. The line of sight refers to the line which goes down the middle of the mat that basically serves as a visual queue, this is more common on cartwheel mats for kids. The line also aids when doing straight tumbling, leaps, jumps, and cartwheels so we aren’t all over the place. Hand-eye coordination helps A LOT.

Injury prevention is highly valued by coaches and parents, we want the little ones to have fun AND be safe. Each recommended cartwheel mat is plenty firm for safe support with at least  1 1/2 inches of padding. [Read more…] about Most Valued Gymnastics Cartwheel Mat For Kids

As gymnasts advance through their levels and begin competing, some equipment may become necessary to acquire as their skills advance. With so much weight supported and held by our hands it becomes a strenuous task to say the least. Gymnastics grips are useful for weight support, hand protection, and, due to certain mechanics, a firm grasp.

This equipment is specifically constructed to prevent friction injuries. They are designed with velcro or buckles that securely wrap around the wrist, a leather strap which reduces exposure to the hand, and finger holes for necessary grasp.

But before you jump into buying a pair of gymnastics hand guards, you’ll need to know which kind are the best gymnastics grips for you or your children.

Teach A Forward Roll Gymnastics Skill At Home

Last Updated Leave a Comment

Level 1 skills may be the most simple skills to do, but teaching children to practice over and over and over and over again can lose their interest very quickly. When this happens, coaching can become one of the toughest jobs in terms of cooperation even for something as simple as a forward roll gymnastics skill.

Back when I first started coaching gymnastics to level 1’s, I thought it was one of the easiest jobs I had ever had.

Then I met Indiana, a 4 year old bleach blonde Tasmanian devil who made me question my own coaching abilities.

Anything I would say to try to get him to practice would fly right into one ear and out of the other. He would run across the gym to jump on the tumble track when we were on the other side practicing on rings.

He was the most rebellious child I have ever taught, and I know many other coaches who have been in the same situation.

So now I know you’re wondering, “How did you get children to listen to you?“.

At the time, I didn’t understand children all too well, but after some guidance from other coaches, I found out the single most important detail to get kids to practice.

Create games

Kids like doing the same things repetitively, as long as it is fun.

Children are not fans of redundant, mundane practicing, and sometimes you’ll get a student who is terrified of being inverted. You have to stimulate their interest by turning it into a game. Make them forget about their fear and get them eager to try something.

And this is what separates a good coach from a spectacular coach.

Turn the skill being taught into a game, you’ll need to get creative by utilizing tumbling mats, cheese mats, and other gymnastics equipment to play various games for corresponding skills.

This goes for parents at home wanting to get their children a heads start before joining a gym also. It is very possible to coach your children at home given the proper safe environment. [Read more…] about Teach A Forward Roll Gymnastics Skill At Home
